I used to do "monthly favorites" posts at the end of each month, but stopped when I found myself featuring the same products over and over again (which goes to show how much I like/use said products, however, it isn't very interesting if I constantly write about the same thing!). On my college student budget I just don't have the money to buy makeup as much as I'd like. Sure, here and there I splurge or receive something as a gift, but when I have no income I can't buy makeup as often as I can when I'm at home and working (and I absolutely hate it! But you do what you gotta do!). I wish I could be one of those bloggers who reviews the newest products- I envy you!- but it's not realistic for me, and that is one reason why "monthly favorites" posts aren't always an entertaining thing for my blog.
That being said, I've decided to do posts showing my recent most-used products in favor of monthly favorites. I hope you enjoy these! A few tried-and-true products are still my Naked Original eyeshadow palette, Victoria's Secret eyeliners, and BareMinerals Mineral Veil, but I've talked about them so much here that I decided not to include them in this specific post.
Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream in Light/Medium, NARS Oasis blush, Darling Girl Cosmetics Cydonia eyeshadow, Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume, Clinique Super Strawberry Chubby Stick, MAC Pro Longlash mascara, Tarte Lights Camera Lashes! mascara, Revlon ColorStay Blackberry eyeliner
Funny side note about these pictures- normally I use my friend's soft box (using daylight bulbs in case anyone is interested in knowing!) for my blog pictures, but she had to use it for a set last weekend and had it collapsed. I have NO idea how to set it up, so I took the main part that the light bulbs are connected to, plugged it in to an outlet, and held it over my makeup as I took pictures. LOL. Typically, the soft box has a tall stand so this was kind of humorous and I'm really glad none of my film/photography friends saw me in the process. Embarrassing. But hey, it worked!
Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream in Light/Medium-
I'm actually kind of on the fence about this product and probably wouldn't repurchase for a few reasons. First, I do like it- it's in my "I use these products on a regular basis" makeup bag and is great if you like light coverage and a lightweight feel. The bottle is also HUGE so it will last you a long time (I've had this tube since the end of December and still have a ton left). I'm not really sure how to describe this exactly, but when I apply it with my fingers it makes my skin feel like it's peeling in a strange way- it's not drying, though. I don't have this issue when I use a flat top synthetic brush like my ELF Studio Powder brush. Overall, I like it, but 1) I'm probably never going to finish it, and 2) it doesn't give me QUITE enough coverage as I'd prefer.
NARS blush in Oasis-
LOVE! This is so pretty because it's 1) the perfect shade of flushed pinky brown, and 2) it has beautiful golden shimmer that eliminates the need for an additional highlighter. That's if you're like me and don't like super frosty/shimmery cheeks, however. See my post here for my review and more swatches.
Darling Girl Cosmetics eyeshadow in Cydonia-
Susan actually describes this shade perfectly on her website, in my opinion! Cydnonia is a "deep grayed down khaki green with a halo of gold," and it's absolutely great for those days where I want one color and not much fuss. I swatched it dry in the picture below, so I apologize that it doesn't really do the shade justice! It's a little deeper and just much more fabulous when you apply it wet.
Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume-
This is totally my go-to spring/summer perfume for daytime wear. I finally fell in love with the sweet floral scent last summer after disliking it for years; I have to say that I can't believe I ever hated it! Some notes include strawberry, grapefruit, and gardenia (what you smell right away), and then it dries down to a heart of vanilla and woods (what lingers on your skin).
Clinique Chubby Stick lip pencil in Super Strawberry-
For more thoughts and pictures of this product, check out my post here. This is a great little pencil to have in your purse when you're in need of a quick touch up- no mirror is necessary and it's both moisturizing and has a slight stain effect. Yes, probably a bit overpriced for what it is (a tinted lip balm in essence), but I like it nonetheless.
MAC Pro Longlash + Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara-
These are fantastic when paired together. Typically, I will do one or two coats of the Tarte and top it off with one of the MAC mascara. I've mentioned this before, but the MAC Pro Longlash just makes my lashes so long! I'm absolutely in love. I need to buy a back-up of the Tarte mascara as I'm pretty much out (fortunately, the ULTA 21 Days of Beauty has begun and it is on sale 3/13 for $10!)
Revlon ColorStay eyeliner in Blackberry-
I just blogged about this here, so make sure to check out that post for a full review/more pictures.
