Splurging because I can('t): The day I fell in love with an overpriced lip balm.

My excuse for wandering down to Sephora this afternoon: the apartment my roommates and I are renting has been on the market to sell for a few years.  My landlord had a showing today and needed us to busy ourselves for an hour, so honestly, where else would I go?  Shopping list (it's really my "to find and swatch in person" list) in tow, I booked it to Sephora to treat myself.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I had about $20 left of a gift card that was just asking to be spent.  The new Urban Decay spring offerings were on my list, followed by the Josie Maran Argan Infinity Cream, Fresh Sugar Petal tinted lip balm (which wasn't at Sephora just yet), and lastly, the Dior Addict Lip Glow.  I went in with a maximum budget for myself of $35- I didn't want to spend much out of pocket so I'd only buy one thing.  Don't worry, I stuck to my original plans and didn't exceed my allowance.  The funny part of the story is this: I walked out of Sephora having purchased a product I had always deemed a complete waste of money.

Behold!  Dior Addict Lip Glow, my new love (AKA a stupidly overpriced lip balm):

So, I'm frugal and the whole point of this blog is "beauty on a college student's budget."  For me, that student budget is usually about zero.  I don't have money to spend on a THIRTY ONE DOLLAR LIP BALM, but thankfully- thankfully- I had a gift card to help me out.  Oh yeah, and I told myself I deserved it to rationalize the price tag.

In all honesty, I really think everyone should experience one high-end beauty product at least once in his/her life.  If you're fortunate, lucky you for being able to do it more than once.  I picked up this lip balm and actually didn't know if I'd love it- the tester was missing from the display (which I later found at the MUA's station), so I didn't have plans to even try the thing on.  It just looked so gorgeous sitting there, in its light pink translucent tube with silver bullet, waiting to be dropped into my purse.  And of course, it made its way with me to the checkout line.

All blabbering aside- the Dior Addict Lip Glow is a lip balm that tints your lips a shade of pink as it adapts to your body temperature.  It's moisturizing, a little bit glossy, and feels pretty fantastic to apply.  Little did I know, it also has SPF 10 and mango butter to hydrate (according to Sephora's website).  I can't say a lot about the wear time since I just brought it home, but sadly, I don't even care!  I love it, and I especially adore the enhancing shade of pink it turns my lips.

You'll see below in the swatches that it's a rather subtle tint.  The color is more noticeable in real life and deepens ever so slightly as it settles.

You might also think something along the lines of, "I can totally find a color like this in my own collection."  And you probably can, but one thing that makes this stand out for me is its translucency and shine.  It feels (and looks) weightless, almost like I just woke up with lips that appear this way.  That's probably just me trying to convince myself that this was a worthy purchase.

If you made it to the end of this wordy post, congratulations!  Obviously, this was a win for me.  Have you tried Dior's Addict Lip Glow?  What is your opinion on high end splurges like this- or do you consider this anything to sweat over?
